No matter what, pay yourself first.

Savings accounts are a thing of the past. Investing in stocks is the way to go to earn more for your money and keep up with inflation.

When you find the love of your life and decide to marry, keep a separate account– checking & savings. You can share an account to pay household bills, but continue to have your own. She should do the same, too.

I know your youth is for having fun, but please plan for retirement when you start working. I don’t want you to work until your 70’s.

Never rent if you can help it. I’d prefer you to own your home and build equity. I’m not pushing you out at 18. I want you to save for your down payment.

Learn to be a savvy shopper. You don’t have to penny pinch, but you can do your research.

Use coupons when possible and sign up for those pesky rewards. It’ll come in handy.

Keep a budget. It helps to know where all of your money goes when you tell it where to go.

Try to NOT keep up with the Joneses. Please do not buy things to impress people who don’t give a shit about you. Buy what you like and at the price that the item is worth.

Quality over quantity. If it means paying a little more and not having to replace multiple times, just pay a little more. Sometimes the convenience is worth the extra few dollars.
